چکیده

OF THESIS INVESTIGATING AGE-RELATED INHIBITORY DEFICITS IN SPATIAL WORKING MEMORY Age-related inhibitory effects were investigated during spatial memory performance. In Experiment 1, 15 young (M = 20 years) and 16 old adults (M = 70 years) completed two spatial tasks (i.e., Block Suppression Test, Corsi Block Tapping Test) that differed in need for inhibitory processing. Accuracy differences within each task revealed age-related differences in spatial working memory and between task differences revealed that older adults had difficulty ignoring irrelevant items. Experiment 2 (10 young, 10 old adults) examined whether the distractibility of irrelevant items in the inhibition task (i.e. BST) accounted for the age-related inhibitory effects. Findings were largely consistent with the initial experiment indicating that inhibitory function was affected by adult aging.

Effects of systemic and intra-prefrontal cortex administrations of ethanol on spatial working memory in male rats

Introduction: Ethanol can induce a wide spectrum of neurophysiological effects via interaction with multiple neurotransmitter systems and disruption of the balances between inhibitory and excitatory neurotransmitters. Prefrontal cortex is involved in cognitive process including working memory and is sensitive to ethanol. Present study investigates the effects of intraperitoneal (i.p.) admini...

P11: The Effect of Flavonoids in Memory

Flavonoids may exert particularly powerful actions on mammalian cognition and may reverse age-related declines in memory and learning. Flavonoids can be modulated neuronal function and there by influencing memory, learning and cognitive function. Dietary supplementation with flavonoid-rich foods, such as blueberry, green tea and Ginkgo biloba lead to significant reversals of age-related deficit...

Serotonin 5-HT6 receptor blockade reverses the age-related deficits of recognition memory and working memory in mice.

Studies have shown that the blockade of 5-HT6 receptors (5-HT6R) can improve memory processes and reverse age-related spatial episodic like memory deficits. Since normal aging in the human is associated with a decline in episodic and working memory, we assessed the effect of the 5-HT6R blockade (SB-271046) on recognition memory (object recognition task) (a component of episodic like memory) in ...

Interaction of sensory experience and age in spatial memory performances

During a critical period of postnatal age sensory experience has a profound effect on maturation of visual cortical wiring. Electrophysiological evidence is indicating a substantial effect of visual deprivation on the visual cortical response properties. In this study we evaluated effect of light deprivation during a limited time of postnatal age on two aspects of spatial (working and reference...

Neuroprotective Effect of Gallic Acid on Memory Deficit and Content of BDNF in Brain Entorhinal Cortex of Rat’s Offspring in Uteroplacental Insufficiency Model

Introduction: Uteroplacental insufficiency (UPI) causes neurodevelopmental deficits affecting the intrauterine growth restricted (IUGR) offspring. This study aimed to analyze the effects of Gallic acid (GA) on memory deficit and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) content in entorhinal cortex of UPI rat models. Methods: In this experimental study, 40 pregnant Wistar rats were randomly div...
